Do now

1. the genre i am doing is a sports magazine you would expect to find a front cover with a professional sports play in it, information on the person on the cover and fun facts about the sport.

2.  professional athletes being part of the magazine is a stereotype for a sports magazine.

UEFA Euro 2020 ...
STRIKE IT ISSUE 103
Front cover:

  • The people on the cover are footballers Sterling, Aubameyang, Kane, Mane, Rashford, Kante all of them are using a mid shot which brings attention to their football jerseys and the clubs on them which gives us the impression that they are important because they have a prestigious football clubs name on it
  • In the cover lines the subjects covered are signings to football clubs and competitions such as the copa america and the women's world cup
  • The colour scheme uses bright colours such as red yellow white and blue to bring attention to the cover
  • the masthead is in the top section of the magazine and it says strike-it, it is in sans serrif font that is bold and readable
  • 16 images are used on the cover
  • 6 cover lines are used on the cover
  • the date, barcode, price and logo are all on the middle right of the cover
  • four fonts are used in the cover and vary in size from small to large and are the colours of the magazines colour scheme
  • the cover has 5 puffs

Contents page:
  • there is a new section pretty much every 4 pages
  • the contents page uses 2 images which are connected to information covered in the magazine
  • three fonts are used two of them are white and yellow and the other blends in with the blue of the background to be more subtle
  • the text of the contents page is organised in an l shape with the contents at the left side of the page and an additional piece of writing on the bottom of the page

Article:

  • the article is laid out with its title diagonally in the middle around a collage of pictures in the image which related to the subtitle. the text is arranged around the pictures  to make humour out of some football related pictures.
  • 5 images are used all of them being similar size taking up most of the page
  • 4 fonts are used in the colours yellow white and black ranging from large to small all of the sam style of text though which is sans serif
  • the text is organised around the images that are around the title which is made centre of the article and the title has a subtitle
  • some footballers in the article are represented as stupid or geriatric whereas others are presented as good
  • no stereotypes have been used

Overall:
  • this brand differentiates itself from other brands by using attention grab puffs in bright colours to give an aura of playfullness which can make itself stand out compared to other brands that may have a more serious tone and colour palette.
  • the genre conventions presented in this magazine is its highly colourful and bright aesthetic
  • the ideology that is presented in this magazine is that football is very important by using words like epic ,elite and huge to make football seem massive and of high value to people
  • the people on the cover are mostly represented as either humorous or important people because they are footballers
  • the target audience is older children and its targets them by using topics like football to draw them but also keeps a playful aesthetic to keep them interested
MATCH DAY ISSUE 627
Covers:
  • the people on the cover are mason mount. harry kane, bruno Fernandes, phil foden and Jesse lingard they are mostly long or mid shots so that they can have their football kits shown off to present their.
  • the cover lines cover over football boots, recent tournaments and awards for the best goal
  • the colour scheme is yellow pink and blue this is because it matches the bright colours of the football kits they have feature on the cover
  • the masthead is located at the top of page and is in a large bold sans serif font
  • 17 images are used in the cover
  • 12 cover lines are used
  • the logo is part  of the masthead but the rest of the information is all in the bottom left of the cover on top of the barcode
  • four fonts are used which vary in colour black, yellow and blue and vary in size from medium to large
  • one puff is used
Contents page:
  • the contents page is on the right of a double page spread and is laid out one under the other
  • 10 images are used and all are the same size they are anchored to the top of the text
  • one font is used an is black, small and sans serif
  • the text is organised into sections underneath the images and describes what page and topic there are in the magazine

Article:
  • the article is laid out in a collage of pictures underneath a masthead which describes what the article is about and underneath the images are words describing how the images relate to the title
  • five images are used they are all the same size and anchored around the centre of the image
  • 3 fonts are used each vary ins size and colour from small to large and yellow black and white all the font are sans serif
  • the text is organised underneath the image with a cover line of the image
  • the colour scheme is purple, red, black and yellow to create a large attention grabbing article
  • a stereotype is used since they present VAR as inefficient which is a popular theme to present virtual assistant referees with
Overall:
  • the house style is established from other brands by using colours that don't nessacarily mix like yellow, red and purple to be unique and grab peoples attention
  • the genre conventions presented in this magazine is its highly colourful and bright aesthetic that grabs attention of young children
  • the idea's presented in this magazine is that football is very important and popular with people
  • the footballers in the magazine are presented a very capable celebrities
  • the target audience is kids around the age of 10 and it advertises to them by using bright colours to entice them into wanting to buy it

LO:to research genre codes and conventions
Do now

1.I am going to do a sports magazine
2.i will have cover lines about the topic of football and feature footballers in magazines
3. i am intending to use the stereotypes of having a footballer on the front cover

Imagery

In a football magazine i would expect to see pictures of footballers, football boots, football fans, stadiums and gear that is used in football like kneepads or kits.

Colour palette

In a football magazine i would expect it too have a colour palette of bright colours which grab the readers attention since most football magazines have a target audience of children

Typography

In a football magazine the typography is mainly using sans serif fonts in varying size from small cover lines and paragraphs of writing in articles about the topic featured in the article and large headlines and titles to grab readers attention.

Lexis

The lexis used in a football magazine would use very emotive language and simple language to give emphasis to the magazine's headlines and simple language used for the young target audience to be able to perceive and understand.

Topics for articles

Articles usually cover the newest information in transfer news, footballers skills, new products pertaining to football and interviews with managers and players of football.

Representations of people

Footballers in football magazines are usually presented as very talented and athletes and celebrities that are almost like god's compared to regular people. Which is slightly different from how managers are treated in magazines which are usually either presented as geniuses or very idiotic people.

To research the representations created in similar products
Do now

representation in media is how something has been presented as like an idea about itself in form of media through shot type or angle, mise en scene and editing this can be how gender, race, regional identity, social issues and events is presented to an audience.

Magazines

  • Beloved, popular, godly and praised
  • gender in these images is presented in a stereotypical way in which male figures overtake women with the spotlight on only them this is shown from the amount of women shown in the magazine compared to men which is much less representation for women. So men are presented as the dominant gender and overshadow women which is stereotypical of what some sports fans believe
  • age has been represented by giving older people less presentation on the magazine this gives the impression that younger people are more capable and popular when it comes to sports which is stereotypical as older people are usually show as as less dominated in sports
  • ethnicity is presented as irrelevant since many footballers of different races are shown without mention of that fact since everyone is treated the sam and is not stereotyped by having people of all races shown on the magazines images
  • Sport and fashion are shown as important by the magazine since most of the pictures involve some form of product placement due to the sports brands on the players kits.
  • The importance of the sport of football and how popular the footballers are as a celebrity is the stereotypes that have been used

Comments

  1. RESEARCH
ANALYSIS: good, both products are analysed well.

CODES & CONVENTIONS: good - this show's that you have understood the genre

REPRESENTATIONS: also good. Make sure you try to use these in your own product. I like how you've differentiated between players & managers.

AUDIENCE RESEARCH: Needs doing. Make sure you add a screen shot of your questionnaire and then the results.
