Homework Friday 20th July

1.The film poster the man with the golden gun communicates its genre through the mise en scene of its main character, James Bond, large in the centre of the poster brandishing a gun, this use of a prop gun in the poster has connotations that the movie will be an action movie. Additionally the use of a bright and gold colour pallete attracts the viewer of the poster and connotes a hint of luxury and culture which is furthered by the suit that Bond is wearing, this implies that the movies genre is going to have the presence of luxury and wealthy surroundings where there will be higher stakes furthering the notion that the film will be an action movie.

The poster for the man with the golden gun movies also has many exotic locations from many different cultures and economic statuses surrounded around bond who is the focal point of the poster, these locations that surround bond gives the notion to the viewer that Bond travels to many places within the movie thus communicating the meaning that this movie will have adventure elements to its story. Additionally many scantily clad women are featured in the poster around Bond which communicates the idea that Bond as a character is a standard masculine male and the movie will appeal to male audiences with its genre and story.

2. social context influences advertising to a massive amount of significance to be able to sell the product or idea to the viewer by communicating its product along with sociatal norms or pushes for new social ideas. The this girl can campaign is a great example of how social context influences advertising as it reflects many ideas promoted by the feminist and body positive movement. This girl can was a campaign to encourage women of all shapes and sizes to engage in sports and physical activity so of course would align itself with feminist values which parrot many of the same ideas. In one of the posters used by the campaign it presents a Women in a tank top dancing passionatly to music with the tagline "sweating like a pig, feeling like a fox" the juxtaposition of the animals "pig" and "fox" could create an idea that though people may see the women as unattractive she doesnt care and feels great, this bolsters the ideas of feminism as a part of modern day social activism and promotes the advertising campaign to feminists.
