Lo: To analyse a media text using media language


Group analysis


In the Dune trailer, the editing is used effectively to flex its lage cast of celebrities'. For example at the 11 second mark Zendaya enters and says a single line for the trailer and the director uses editing to work the line into the flow of the trailer. This creates anticipation for the show because a highly prestigious actor is in it , and makes the audience thinks its a movie worth seeing.


In the Dune trailer, the Mise en scene is used effectively to show its watchers what genre and type of movie this is. For example at the 1 minute and 21 second mark we see a group of futuristic soldiers wearing all black armour and the director uses this to show that this is a scifi movie that is also serious. This creates a sense of interest in the audience as it makes them ask questions not about the movie but about what's in the movie. This creates interest and makes the audience want to know more.


Individual analysis


Camerawork


For the scene I have chosen this frame.



In this frame a extra wide shot is used to show the magnitude of soldiers they need to fight the enemy. This affects' the audience by making them asks questions like "Why are there so many soldiers?" and "Who are they fighting?"


Mise en scene


This is the shot im using for Mise en scene


One piece of MES is the large ships in the foreground  this shows that there is a war and this creates a sense of suspense in the audience. Another piece of MES is the two people overlooking the battle field, this is to show how many people are being affected by the war, this creates a sense of empathy for the audience.


The soundtrack


At the 2 minute mark of Dunes official trailer  the soundtrack climaxes and every large hit of the drum there is a new scene this creates a great mix of sound and viewing and is pleasant to the audience ears and eyes.


Editing


At the 2 minute and 44 second there is a chase scene  where the main character is attacked by a massive sand worm. This has a suspenseful effect on the audience.

Denotations and Connotations

  20th september tuesday 2022 to analyse texts using correct terminology Today for media studies we are looking at denotations and connotations Denotations are the obvious literal things shown on the piece of media Connotations are the underlying meanings and metaphors.  The denotations of this piece of media is that of a pale woman with a moth covering her mouth. However you can theorise of  the connotations of this like the woman is pale because she is dead and the moth covering her mouth is eating her. Her eyes could be red to symbolise the blood that she has seen? or her own blood? and the darkness around could symbolise her being dead.

29th September 2022 lo:to analyse a media text using media language I think this is a mid shot because it shows most but not all of the body and it doesnt show the rest of the set. The clothes are dark and thick so i can assume that this movie is set somewhere cold and that it is a realistic move. In the poster he has a gun and a walkie talkie so we can assume it is an action film. In the poster his facial expression. The background is gold with the numbers 007 which is a reference to the popular game released by the franchise "GOLDEN EYE" In the soundtrack they use the diegetic sounds are made to show how intense the film is like the shouting explosions and guns. I think they create short and snappy cuts to increase the excitement for the film without spoiling anything. But also have short scenes of dialogue to flex the cast of celebrity actors whilst also introducing their characters. Near the end of the film it shows reels of the highest action moments.
